The 5 essential energies of life
In the Bön and broader Tibetan traditions, these are known as the Five Vital Forces (or Natal Forces), which govern an individual's physical and spiritual well-being. These energies are often visually represented by the Lungta (Wind Horse) and the five colors of prayer flags.
The Five Vital Energies
- Life Force (Sok): This is the fundamental vital energy that connects the body and mind. It is the essential "battery" for physical existence; when it is exhausted, life ends.
- Health (Lü): Refers to the physical body and its immunity. It represents the balance of the five elements (earth, water, fire, wind, space) within the physical frame.
- Prosperity/Personal Power (Wang Tang): Also translated as "authentic presence" or charisma. It is the capacity to achieve goals, attract wealth, and influence others without facing constant obstacles.
- Reputation/Good Fortune (Lungta): Literally meaning "Wind Horse," this energy governs luck and social standing. When lungta is high, one’s reputation is protected, and positive opportunities arise quickly.
- Confidence/Soul (La): Represents the psychological stability and "soul energy" of an individual. It provides the mental resilience and inner confidence needed to navigate life's challenges.
In Bön practice, these energies are considered unstable and can be depleted by negative actions or environmental stressors. Practitioners use specific methods to restore them. In this retreat we will be balancing and strengthening these energies to rejuvenate our lives.
