Compassion & Forgiveness

In classical Tibetan teachings it is said that we do not really become a full human being until we open our heart to embrace others.

Developing loving kindness and feeling compassion toward our fellow humans is one thing, while putting it into action is another matter. Our caring and compassion are tested and challenged in every moment, and we can face that challenge every time we are tempted to ignore but choose to stay open instead.

The Practice of Forgiveness

On this retreat we will discover where we are carrying resentment towards others and learn to let it go with the practice of forgiveness. Geshe Yongdong will guide us in mindfulness practices that bring self-awareness to those wounded areas of ourselves that need the healing of compassion. In order to have compassion for others, we need to have compassion for ourselves.

The Practice of Tonglen

The tonglen practice is

  • a method for awakening the compassion that is inherent in all of us.us.
  • a method using our breath to connect with our suffering
  • to connect with the suffering of others and that which is all around us.
  • a method for overcoming fear of suffering
  • for dissolving the tightness of our heart.

Geshe YongDong
Geshe YongDong Losar (Geshela) is a Tibetan Bön lama, or spiritual teacher, in the Yungdrung Bön lineage, a Buddhist school with roots in the Bon indigenous spiritual tradition of the Himalayas.
