For over twenty years, Geshe Yongdong (GesheLa), the Tibetan Bon Buddhist Society (TBBS), and Sherab Chamma Ling have shared a vision: to create a sanctuary where all can learn and practice compassion and wisdom through the preservation of Bon Buddhist teachings in Canada. After years of careful fundraising and stewardship, that dream is now within reach.
We are delighted to announce a promising opportunity—a property in the Comox Valley that could become the permanent home of Sherab Chamma Ling. The purchase price is attainable, and the site offers additional rental potential to help sustain future operations. With our current savings and steady annual income, we are nearly able to finance the purchase. To complete this vision, we seek additional support to strengthen our down payment or establish an endowment to ensure long-term stability.
Property Highlights
- Location: Downtown Courtenay, one block from 5th Street. Surrounded by other spiritual and community organizations, near parks, amenities, and ample parking—an ideal, visible, and accessible setting for community service.
- Buildings: Two connected structures. One can be renovated into a practice centre for up to 30 participants, with a small kitchen, office, and bathrooms. The other can serve as rental offices or a two-bedroom residence, generating income or supporting future Centre activities. Both buildings are well maintained and currently leased to a reliable tenant.
- Zoning: City zoning supports our intended use and allows for potential multi-storey development in the future.
- Financing: The property value is $650,000. With our substantial savings and stable annual income, we are close to meeting loan requirements. We now seek an additional $300,000 to complete the down payment or create an income endowment.
Through years of dedication, community support, and shared vision, we are closer than ever to establishing a lasting home for Bon teachings in Canada. With your help, this dream can finally become reality.
