April 17 -19, 2020: Important Changes for Spring Retreat – due to COVID19
April 17 @ 7:00 pm - April 19 @ 1:00 pm PDT$145.00
Important Message from Chair Larry Moss
As we all know, due to the COVID -19 virus, communities across the country and around the world have been asked to cancel large gatherings and maintain social distance from one another.
This is not only to cut down on the number of people who might be infected, but also to slow the speed of the spread of the virus. We have also been told that the elders of our population, should they be infected, are the most at risk of having the worst complications. The maximum that our centre can hold is 50 individuals. That is not a large number, but the centre is definitely a confined space and many of us are far past the prime of our youth.
For these reasons, the board of the Tibetan Bon Buddhist Society has decided that, for now, the centre will be closed and GesheLa’s teachings will only occur through Zoom.
Therefore, this directly affects our Spring Retreat, set for April 17 to 19 which is one of our annual fundraisers that we rely on to keep our Centre.
Because the originally planned teachings on Ngondro and Phowa are to be only done in a physical teacher to student situation, those teaching are going to be deferred, possibly to this coming fall and next spring.
And here is the good news!
We are still are offering a teaching for an online ‘retreat’ using the Zoom app.
For the Zoom Retreat on April 17 – 19, Geshe La has chosen to teach:
‘The 8 Protectors and 21 Manifestations of Sherab Chamma’
with transmissions of the text given during the weekend.
Sherab Chamma is the Wisdom and Loving Mother of all beings and of all Buddhas. In fact, the name has these meanings. She is Golden Light; her practice heals from illnesses and gives long life. All Bön deities come from Chamma, she is the compassionate and wise mother of all.
At this time in this world at this moment, we very much need spiritual and mental protection like Sherab Chamma.
This teaching is also good for your personal retreat at home and your commitment to your teacher while you are at home.
While we offer to do this now by live video recording and not in person, at Sherab Chamma Ling, you can easily share your experience as if you are in person with your teacher Geshe La, and with all your brothers and sisters in our international sangha. Your safest place right now is with your family and loved ones at home and with this blessed teaching and practice instead of worrying by yourself at home alone.
Sherab Chamma has many manifestations to practice and during this retreat, Geshe YongDong will focus on eight methods of eight manifestations of Sherab Chamma. Each one of them has certain meditation practices, healing purifications, mantra recitations and visualizations that you can learn and practice from your home.
Geshe YongDong will lead participants to learn this ancient Tibetan healing practice in order to connect with Sherab Chamma, the highest goddess in the Tibetan Bon Tradition.
These powerful practices benefit everyone, bringing personal and global healing of fears, suffering, sickness, and obstacles. This retreat will enable all practitioners to invoke the unbounded wisdom of the Loving Mother to initiate inner transformation and joy.
Geshe La received this teaching under his root teacher Jawob Rinpoche and His Holiness world Bon leader Menri Trizin.
We hope that you will be interested in this chosen teaching and take part in the live video teaching via Zoom as our annual retreats are our major fundraiser to support our Centre. Any other donations you make are gratefully accepted.
If you have any questions at all, or need help with learning how to Zoom in for the weekend, please email: mailto:[email protected] and one of our Zoom experts will be in contact with you to help you get set up. Its not complicated, but please ask!
